With capacity for 45,000 spectators, the Peter Mokaba Stadium is one of the smallest of the World Cup stadiums. This stadium, located in Polokwane in northern South Africa, was completely modernised with a new floodlight system, new sound system and new scoreboard.
The ceiling on the west side was also removed and replaced with a new one. The architects of this stadium were inspired by the Baobab tree, and traces of this inspiration can be seen for instance in the supporting pillars.
The stadium was named after a political activist during the apartheid, a native of Polokwane well-known for his fighting spirit and charisma.
